Author Interview: Sue Brown with The Next Call

Today I'm featuring an interview with Sue Brown, a lovely author, in honor of another one of her releases, The Next Call. Enjoy!!

What are you wearing (and no fibbing!)?
Fleecy Christmas sweater and fleece sweatpants. It’s Sunday, I want to be comfortable. Okay I admit it, it’s my standard ‘at home who cares’ wear.

Are you a person who makes their bed in the morning, or do you not see much point?
Making my bed? Moving on swiftly…

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate every time.

Do your characters try to make like bunnies and create ever more convoluted plots for you? Or do you have to coax them out of your characters?
My secondary characters never shut up. They want to be centre screen the whole time. I have to put them in a corner to give the boys a chance to get it on.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?
Toughest criticism – hmm. There’s been a lot. Two things stick in my mind. An edit that nearly crucified me. It left me unable to promo the book at all. And when I was writing Nothing Ever Happens I received some criticism that left me unable to complete the story for six months. According to the person reading it (she was the beta and had been reading it from the start) there was nothing right about it from beginning.
The funniest was an Amazon review that started “This is pants.”
The best compliment was a guy who told me he’d burst into tears at the end of one of my stories because he’d been transported back to his high school days by a single line I’d written. I feel I did good.

How many books have you written? Do you have a favorite?
Do you know, I have no clue. Over fifty I think. A favourite – that is a hard one. Final Admission ranks among my faves, and Falling for Ramos. I loved writing both those books.

What sort of coffee would your main character, Mark, order? Simple coffee, or a complicated soy-non-fat-extra-espresso-half-caff-specialty drink?
Black or latte. He’s a simple man. Just feed him the caffeine and he’s happy. Much like me really.

Did the main characters or a scene from the plot for The Next Call come to you first?
The Next Call was based on a plot that I’d been asked to write in my fanfic years. It’s nothing like the fanfic plot it was supposed to be but the scene at a bridge was part of the original idea.

From your blurb, your plot features heavily around a LGBT tip line. Do you have any personal experience with that plot element or was it something you added to the story as you came up with the plot?
I have no personal experience but it suited my character, Mark. I never intended for the whole team to be such an important part of the story. They were a noisy lot in my head.

Can you share a little of your future projects with us?
I’m writing a Regency story based around a Gentlemen’s club, a crime series and finally, finally the second in a series with Lisa Worrall. My bestie has waited a long time for me to get my arse in gear.

Thank you for having me!

Sue was great answering all my questions. Okay, now check out more about The Next Call!

AUTHOR BIO: Sue Brown is owned by her dog and two children. When she isn't following their orders, she can be found plotting at her laptop. In fact she hides so she can plot and has gotten expert at ignoring the orders.

Sue discovered M/M erotica at the time she woke up to find two men kissing on her favorite television series. The series was boring; the kissing was not. She may be late to the party, but she's made up for it since, writing fan fiction until she was brave enough to venture out into the world of original fiction.
